Act as If

The Law of Attraction has been a leading force in my life. I first heard of this law through my esoteric/ philosophical studies. Something about it resonated and stuck. I dabbled in different practices and rituals while experiencing its effects. I became really invested in my relationship with this law at about the age of nineteen. This was the year I left the United States by myself to live and study in Costa Rica. In my nineteenth year of life I met my (now) husband, went to live in the Appalachian mountains, connected with my indigenous roots, and returned to Costa Rica to begin a new adventure. I have an incredibly long list of manifestations that I, in co-creation with the Universe, have been able to bring forth. Some of them are: my husband, my life in Costa Rica, the tribe of friends and colleagues that I bonded with during my studies in San Ramon, teaching dance and yoga, the home we currently live in, the abundant fertile land that we own and are building on in Nicaragua, our daughters, and the list goes on. I am transitioning into a new phase of focused manifestations. As I emerge from the birthing space I am reclaiming my body as my own and recognizing my limitless potential within this lifetime. I will write a separate article regarding the things I am currently manifesting, but for now I will focus on sharing one of my favorite manifestation techniques.

ACT AS IF

One of my favorite manifestation techniques is called “Act as If”. The law of attraction states that like attracts like. Abundance attracts abundance. Discipline attracts discipline. Love attracts love. So on and so forth. In order to practice the “Act as If” technique, one first must identify what their highest self consists of. When I say “highest self : I am referring to the ideal version of you; the you that is your healthiest, happiest, most vibrant and vital self. Once you’ve envisioned your highest self in full detail you can respond to some questions such as: What does she look like? What are her routines? What does she do that sets her apart? (*My thirty-page Mandala Manifestations workbook is an excellent place to start in envisioning your highest self and ideal life. You can find the link at the end of this article.)

After you have taken the time to reflect upon and respond to these questions you can then identify where your current self and your ideal self are not in alignment. For example: if your ideal self wakes up at 6 am and completes a self-care morning routine to start their day while your current self hits the snooze button until the absolute last minute then rushes to get out the door you can clearly see that your highest self and your current self are not in alignment. Once you have made the observations regarding which areas of your life are out of alignment with your highest self, you can start making changes. Nobody knows you better than you. When it comes to making changes you are the one that will determine if these changes are all-of-a-sudden big changes or gradual smaller changes. Make sure to choose the areas of life that will have the greatest overall impact on your transformation. The purpose in using this technique is to act as if you already were your highest self in order to align your current reality with your desired reality. You act though you’ve already accomplished all of your big goals. you act as if you already own the home, car, and career of your dreams. You embody your highest self through your current actions which then attracts those desires into your life.

Another fun way to practice the “Act as If” technique is to have a “highest self day”. This day will take some preparation but it is so worth it. Reflect on the question: what would my highest self do in their day? You will then prepare your life to embody the day of your highest self. If your highest self wakes up early, do that. If she leisurely sleeps in and rolls out of bed at her convenience, do that. Does she drink a protein smoothie then hit the gym, or does she eat a croissant while listening to smooth jazz and skimming a fashion magazine? Does she wear a cute tracksuit or is she dressed to the nines? Whatever your highest self is, whatever she does, whatever she looks like: EMBODY her. At the end of your highest self day take inventory of how you feel. I am willing to bet you will feel better than a normal day in which you live unconsciously and just go through the motions.
